"If it's not the offensive, it's a really bad decision. But if it is the offensive, then this is wholly underwhelming and actually Russia in a lot of trouble."
Hello Team!
Jonathan discusses the current Russian offensives and whether they represent the much anticipated major offensive or a "pre-offensive offensive". He notes increased Russian activity around Kupiansk, Kreminna, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Vuhledar. However, if this is the main offensive, it seems underwhelming so far. But if it's not, Russia is wasting troops and resources for little gain. Either way, it's not a good situation for Russia.

Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna Front Line
- Increased Russian activity around Kupiansk, with attacks towards Dvorichne and Hryanykivka. Russians taking positions near Synkivka and digging in at Lyman Pershi.
- Fighting intensifying north of Kreminna but no full offensive yet. Ukrainians may have made some gains around Ploshchanka.
- Russians advancing towards Torske and Serebryanske Forest but progress likely to be limited.
Bakhmut
- Wagner Group captured Krasna Hora and pushing towards Paraskoviivka. If this falls, Bakhmut will be increasingly surrounded.
- Heavy fighting south of Bakhmut near Ivanivske. Bridge over canal to west blown up by Ukrainians to hinder Russian advance.
- Bakhmut to be closed to civilians and aid workers, possibly in preparation for Ukrainian withdrawal or counterattack.
- Reports of Ukrainian special forces raid on Wagner base killing 20.
Avdiivka, Marinka and Vuhledar
- Not much news from Avdiivka other than repelled attacks at Pervomaiske and Nevelske.
- Conflicting reports about Russian advances in Marinka. Geolocated footage shows Russian control of police station but unclear if this represents significant advance.
- Failed Russian assaults on Vuhledar with heavy losses of vehicles and personnel. Detailed pro-Russian report tries to spin the defeat in a more positive light.
Kherson/Zaporizhzhia
- Unconfirmed reports of Ukrainian HIMARS strikes on Russian bases in Mariupol and Melitopol.
